HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR JEWELLERY ON HOLIDAY
School is out for summer and many people are heading off on exciting trips. So, it is time to think about your holiday essentials. Rolling your clothes up and packing them in your suitcase is quite an easy job, but packing your watches and jewellery can be quite a different ball game!
Simply loosely placing your very precious jewellery into your suitcase isn't the best idea, as it is bound to get damaged, especially since your case could be mishandled on route if you are flying. The last thing you want to do when you arrive at your holiday destination is open your suitcase to discover that your expensive pieces of jewellery are damaged or broken.
Therefore, if you're wondering how to make sure that your jewellery is kept safe and secure for the duration of your holiday, then here are some of our tips:
Before Travelling:
Before you start packing for your holiday, take some time to think about where you are going and what pieces of jewellery you might want to take on holiday with you. For example, if you are going to be spending a lot of time sightseeing or shopping on your trip then you are quite likely to be in crowded places, and so it may be a good idea to keep your most sentimental or precious jewellery at home. This will prevent it from being damaged, lost or even stolen. Even if your jewellery is insured, there is no guarantee that you will get it back if it goes missing, and this can be awful if it has great sentimental value.
If you are going to travel with expensive jewellery, then always check that your hotel or accommodation has a safe somewhere where you can place your items when you are not wearing them. It is also a good idea to keep a written record of the items you are taking with you so that you can make sure that you have got everything before you leave for home. We know from experience how easy it is to lose earrings down the side of the sofa!
During Travelling:
All of your jewellery should be carefully handled at all stages of packing, to ensure that they don't get scratched or damaged in any way. It is always best to transport your jewellery in your hand luggage if at all possible, rather than sticking it in your case to be checked-in. This is because it will be with you for the duration of your journey and should, therefore, be less likely to be mishandled or damaged.

They will also keep your jewellery safe from harm while you are on the road.
On Holiday:
So, after following our tips, you should arrive at your destination with your jewellery all in one piece. This is great, but you still need to take care of it while you are enjoying your holiday. Water can be quite harmful to most jewellery, as chlorine and salt cause some metals to weaken and tarnish. Sun cream can also cause damage to some precious stones and sand is not jewellery’s best friend either. Also, if you are on the beach and you drop a piece of jewellery it will be nigh-on impossible to find it in the sand! So, before you head to the beach or pool, take your jewellery off and store it in your safe.
